Oh man, Craft Beer Week is approaching – and the Beer Friends were emailing back and forth all day about the possibilities. Questions arose: should we feature events? Should we suggest our favorites? Should we branch out and individually go to events? Should we quit our jobs, hit every event and find out happens when we wake up (hungover) in ten days. Answers will follow but for now… pregame!
Brad’s 1 – Sixpoint Mad Scientist #5: while waiting for Phil I jumped on the Sixpoint Mad Scientist series – a bit belgian-y and I can’t figure out all the flavors… Click the comment box below and share your thoughts if you’ve had it!
Phil 1 – holy crap! If you’re looking to find fall in a glass go out and find Riverhorse‘s Hippolantern. Ridiculously delicious, tastes as close to a delicious pumpkin pie as I’ve ever had. Starting with a a solid pumpkin ale then aged in bourbon casks with vanilla beans makes this the one to beat for the season.
Brad 2 – The River Horse Hippolantern aged in Bourbon barrels with Vanilla beans – unbelievably smooth and like pumpkin pie in a glass – no lingering taste which makes me look at the glass to make sure I actually drank some.
Phil 2 – River Horse Hop-A-Lot-Amus I live this one. Really continues the excellent showing from River Horse this evening. A good and solid hoppy presence, with a slight back end balance of malts. Love it.
Brad 3 – River Horse Hop-A-Lot-Amus is a delicious and a great IPA. This IPA also happens to be the favorite (label?) of a fellow beer blogger (read: Brew York, New York)
Phil 3 – Special Lager – pretty solid Lager. Good balance between malts and hops. That’s about it, and good.
Brad 4 – Hippolantern on draft – really awesome to be able to try both varieties of the Hippolantern at this event. Hippolantern on draft is more biting but I feel that has a lot to do with the Bourbon barrel aging (cask vs draft aside). The cask was much smoother but both are delicious. Another can’t go wrong from River Horse.
Phil 4 – Hipp-O-Lantern on draft, and yea I spelled it right, sorry Brad. Still a fantastic pumpkin ale, well spiced and balanced. I still prefer the cask version, but this is great for the mass appeal draft offering.
Brad 5: Phil’s a jerk – this ain’t a spelling bee – it’s live blogging! River Horse Double Wit has a nice belgian taste and enjoyable as a last drink. Good night NYC!
